Ayoka Mopelola Olusakin Ph.D, FCasson, DDG (IBC Cambridge)

Professor of Counselling Psychology, Department of Educational Foundations, University of Lagos Akoka, Lagos Nigeria


Born on the 20th February, 1958, a native of Ifewara in Osun State of Nigeria, attended Ifewara High School (1972-1977) and Queen School, Ibadan (1977-1978) before proceeding to the University of Ibadan where she obtained B.Ed in Guidance and Counselling/English Language (Second Class Upper Division (1982) and M.Ed in Guidance and Counselling (1987) as well as Ph.D in Counselling Psychology (1991). She has done post doctoral studies in many institutions including LYNKEL Computers (1995); The Redeemed Christian Church of God Bible College, (1997); University of Wales Aberystwyth (2001); INFORMATICS Computer School (2002); French School (2003); Central Michigan University (2005-2006); London Metropolitan University (2009); the University of Greenwich (2009), and Harvard University (2012). Mopelola Olusakin who has taught as a Secondary School English Language Teacher (1983-1992), started her University teaching career as a Lecturer II in the Department of Educational Foundations, University of Lagos in 1992; she was appointed a Lecturer I in 1995; Senior Lecturer in 1998, Associate Professorin 2002 and full Professor in 2008.Prof. Olusakin, who is a Fellow of the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON) and Institute of Security, Nigeria, also belong to so many other professional associations such as: Nigeria Association of University Women, University of Lagos Women Society, Nigerian Association of Professional Educators (NAPE), Nigerian Psychological Association, African Counselling Network, World Counselling Network,Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), Association for Pastoral and Spiritual Care and Counselling (APSCC), Association for University and College Counselling (AUCC), American Counselling Association (ACA), International Association of Marriage and Family Counsellors (IAMFC) and a member of the Nigerian Academy of Education (NAE) etc
Association, Accreditation Committee on Affliated Institution for theNational Universities Commission (NUC); She is a Pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). She has to her credit about 80 publications apart from seminar and workshop papers and she is currently working on three research projects. Olusakin, Ayoka Mopelola has been a registered member of the Counselling Association of Nigeria since 1988. She has served in different positions before she was elected as the Chairman of the Counselling Association of Nigeria, Lagos Chapter, she initiated the publication of the ‘Lagos Counsellor’ Journal of the Counselling Association of Nigeria Lagos Chapter and 4 issues were published during her tenure. She was the National Vice-President of the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON), 2010-2012. She has successfully supervised over 180 undergraduate projects, 200 Masters dissertations and 24 Ph.D theses (Names and project titles of the Masters and Ph.D students can be viewed on Unilag website). During her tenor as the Head of Department (from 2009 to 2012), the Department witnessed several promotions among members of staff and produced about 300 Masters and 22 Ph.D. Holders out of which 3 won the Best Theses Award among others. She attracted funding to the Department and the School of Postgraduate Studies.

With several years of experience in professional counselling,teaching, media communication & public relations, Yinlayefa brings passion and drive to professional counselling services of Recovery Waters. As the Chief Operating Officer, she is the chief counselling officer and she also oversees the general operations of the counselling clinic and She has brought to bear, versatility and deep knowledge of the subject matters in the areas of professional counselling, the target audience and identification of the needed counselling services and cutting edge methodologies to handle varied situations. She is leading a revolution in redefining standards and service delivery in the professional counselling services in Nigeria. Before promoting Recovery Waters Counselling Services, Yinlayefa worked as a Public Relations officer at Centre Spread Advertising, Customer Service Manager at the VMobile Network (now Airtel) and Executive Director, Slash Consulting, an educational management consulting firm. She is a long standing part-time instructor (volunteer service) in Tailornimi Entrepreneurial Development Centre, Lagos. Yinlayefa holds a Masters degreein Education (Guidance and Counselling) from University of Lagos Nigeria and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Arts from University of Uyo, Nigeria. A member of Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON). She is an Assistant Pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and has served
in the Counselling Department, the Teen and Single Sisters Fellowships in the last 20 years. Her off work hobbies include fashion designing, pattern making and mentoring.

He is currently an Assistant Director in the Central Bank of Nigeria. Prior to his joining the Central Bank of Nigeria, he held senior management positions as the Group Head, Energy in the Corporate Banking Division of United Bank of Africa (UBA) Plc, Group Head, Oil & Gas Downstream, Corporate Banking Division, Fidelity Bank Plc, Executive Director, Marketing,Training & Manpower Development, Goldpoint Consult Limited, a Human Resource, Financial & Management consulting firm and Management Accountant, Ultimate Neons Limited, a leading outdoor advertising outfit. A strategic thinker,Life coach and speaker in seminars, workshops and conferences in the areas of entrepreneurship, financial empowerment and leadership. He is well known as an astute facilitator in the training schools of the institutions he has worked for. His
passions are life transformation and change management of individuals and systems for better results. He has attended various senior management and executive programs locally and abroad.
